Assistant Manager - Tax & Compliance((Canada) CA)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting and Tax Manager to join our team. As the Canadian Accounting and Tax Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting and tax compliance for our organization. Your expertise in Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations will be critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting and adherence to legal requirements. This is a senior-level position that requires strong leadership, technical proficiency, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and supervise the accounting and tax functions of the organization, including financial reporting, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and tax compliance.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
  3. Coordinate and oversee the preparation and filing of all required tax returns, including corporate income tax, sales tax (GST/HST), payroll tax, and other applicable taxes.
  4. Stay updated on changes in Canadian accounting and tax laws/regulations and provide guidance to ensure compliance.
  5. Develop and implement internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, ensure data integrity, and mitigate financial risks.
  6. Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  7. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, and regulatory bodies, to address accounting and tax-related matters.
  8. Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  9. Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in accounting and tax operations.
  10. Assist in due diligence activities for mergers, acquisitions, and other business transactions, ensuring proper accounting and tax implications are considered.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) is required.
  2. Extensive experience (8+ years) in accounting and tax roles, with a focus on Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations.
  3. In-depth knowledge of Canadian GAAP, tax laws, and regulatory requirements, including experience with tax planning and compliance.
  4. Strong understanding of financial reporting principles, internal controls, and accounting systems.
  5. Proven track record of successfully leading and managing accounting teams, including the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  6. Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  7. Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  8. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  9. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  10. Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and best practices in accounting and tax.
